BTS Star V Announces A New Single–With A Singer Who’s Been Dead For Almost 50 Years
Halloween only just ended, and Thanksgiving hasn’t yet arrived… but it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas. This has certainly become a popular idea in the U.S. music industry, as holiday-themed songs and albums are released earlier and earlier every year. A member of one of the biggest bands in the world has announced a new seasonal tune coming in about a month, and it’s a collaboration with a man who is forever tied to the jolliest day of the year.
V, one of the seven singers in BTS, announced on Wednesday (November 6) that a new song is coming next month. He’ll release an updated take on the holiday classic “White Christmas,” and he won’t be alone.
His version of the standard will feature Bing Crosby himself. The crooner made “White Christmas” a hit more than half a century ago, and then a holiday must-hear, and it’s his recording that is the most famous of the smash, and the one heard by millions every year.
V and Crosby’s “White Christmas” is slated to arrive on December 6. That timing should allow fans of both musicians to buy and stream the tune in large enough numbers that it becomes a hit on the Billboard charts, if only one that sticks around for a few weeks.
Crosby originally released “White Christmas” in the summer of 1942, preparing for the winter months, when it could become hugely popular. The tune was written by Irving Berlin, and it’s one of his most famous compositions. The single went on to win Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, as it was created specifically for the film Holiday Inn.
The partnership is certainly unexpected, and odd, but it makes sense. V’s current popularity will introduce the song to many young listeners around the world. He has the power to make it a sales smash again, and to reinvigorate interest in the cut… not that it’s disappeared from public consciousness. Crosby—or, his estate—provides the South Korean musician with the chance to be part of a big part of American history, and to score another hit on the charts.
Crosby died in 1977, but lately, he’s been finding his way back to the Billboard rankings every year around Christmas. Several of his tunes, including “White Christmas” (of course) become hits all over again as Americans stream and buy the song in huge numbers every December. Now, he may rise higher than ever on some lists, thanks to the BTS artist’s inclusion.
